Hailing from the U.K. by way of Sweden, Shift is back for a brand new E.P. to follow up his “Altamont Rising” full-length put out by Cold Spring this past summer. Starting in the mid-90’s, Shift’s sound has evolved from the extremely heavy instrumental works of earlier years, to the more vocal centered Power Electronics and concrete industrial sound found on his newer albums. He’s also been running the Unrest Productions label since 2006 and its sublabel Unsound Recordings since 2011.

With two side-long tacks, Shift’s contribution to the C20 series crushes all in its path. Dealing with being subjected to others mental illness and the long shadow it casts; this is a dark look at the effects of unchecked interactions. Side A builds layers and layers of carefully constructed analog synths and obscured vocal samples to lay the foundation for highly effected vocal attacks. The pulsing electronics intensify steadily and forcefully until you feel your speakers are ready to blow. This track is very disorienting at high volumes! Side B takes a more plodding approach, with disjointed rhythms interlocking with the nauseous rise and fall of carefully crafted synth work and cleaner more aggressive vocals. Slower and meaner, like a caged animal, for the falling!
