Description

Juice Machine are no strangers to Dumpsterscore. After putting out several releases, playing MANY shows together, making albums together and being genuine close friends with the duo, this is a bittersweet and meaningful release that I'm honored to put out. The married duo of Heather and Roger (aka chefkirk) are unfortunately no longer active, as Heather sadly passed in early 2024. This has been a huge loss for all that were fortunate enough to know her and her memory burns strong in the hearts of those that loved her and were fans of her art. Longstanding fixtures of the Pacific Northwest noise scene, playing a constant stream of shows and recording what seems like an album (or more) a month for nearly a decade, the duo's kind and supportive demeanor was a constant, appreciated by all.

With this final release you can hear many of the hallmarks of their prolific ten years of output. Stacks of tiny oscillator boxes building glitched out beats and atonal drones, tapes fading in out of the mix providing bizarre narratives and dubby atmospheres, stuttering digital glitches and crackling white noise. Showing that they were never afraid to morph and grow their sound though, while early records were firmly planted in the harsh noise/glitch world, these later albums have hints of psychedelia and can bring to mind some of the early electronic music from the 60s/70s, as well as drone and tape music, while still maintaining the glitches, textured noise layers and a throbbing low-end. The Black Egg was recorded over a week on the Oregon coast and the tracks have a meditative quality to them, feeling the deep appreciation for nature and the unknown that the duo have always represented. As mentioned, it's a bittersweet release, but I'm proud to put out an amazing album by good friends and honor the memory of an amazing person. Rest in peace Heather Chessman, 1977-2024.
